During a recent generative AI Prompt-a-Thon held by NYU Langone Health, teams of clinicians, educators and researchers worked together to find AI-powered solutions to health care challenges using real-world, de-identified patient data."Beyond engaging a larger segment of our workforce in generative AI, we also felt such an in-person event mixing different specialties, roles and experiences could create those novel ideas and relationships that drive innovation: a true community of learning."This event instantly reminded me of Infoway's Projectathon, which took place earlier this year. Just as the Prompt-a-Thon gathered experts from different disciplines to achieve a common goal, our Projectathon convened public and private sector implementers to demonstrate live interoperability capability of solutions in conformance with pan-Canadian specifications.Collaborative events such as Prompt-a-Thons, Connectatons and Projectatons can play an important role in convening stakeholders to find solutions to pressing health care challenges. I look forward to seeing more of these events and the innovative solutions that come from them.https://lnkd.in/gUzx7W6P#AI #Interoperability #Projectathon

The use of Artificial Intelligence (#AI) and Machine Learning (#ML) models for #drugdevelopment, #clinicaltrials, #diseasedetection, #clinicaldecisionmaking and other #healthcare functions holds tremendous promise - or peril. #TrustworthyAI standards and principles are just emerging, and opportunities for standardized performance validation and ongoing monitoring of algorithm effectiveness, including across different population subgroups and social determinants of health (#SDOH) remain scarce, in particular for models that are not within oversight of FDA, the , or other regulatory agencies. Interesting new article in JAMA, Journal of the American Medical Association, making the case for a nationwide network of health AI assurance labs to evaluate models using nationwide standards and best practices, taking voluntary frameworks such as those created by the Coalition for Health AI (CHAI) to the next level. (At least one of) the questions will be whether (or how) such a network can keep pace with the sheer development speed and diversity of AI models in healthcare.
