2A THE STANLY NEWS PRESS I Albemarle, NC I Tuesday, August 20, 2002 02 State 4-H Electric Katie Hatley of Stanfield represented Stanly County as a delegate during the 55th Annual State 4-H Electric Congress held July 8-10 at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Katie was selected to attend Electric Congress because of her cumulative record, a three-year project, in Electricity that placed Gold at the district level. Katie was among 180 4- H'ers, adult leaders, Extension Agents and power company 4 Congress Asheville From left, Gary Hatley, Katie Hatley and Wayne Huddleston, a representative from Duke sign advertising 2002 State 4-H Electric Congress in Asheville. Katie represented Stanly County. Stanly County 4-H'er attends Electric Congress representatives from across North Carolina to attend the three-day event.

Duke Power Company provided the trip and helped sponsor the 4-H Electric Gary Hatley, Katie's father, also attended the 4-H Electric Congress along with other leaders. Group activities included an electric project workshop and presentation on "How to Recruit and How to Present." 'Also on the agenda were trips to Ghost. Christopher Lamar Earl, 33, was arrested Aug. 18 and charged with driving while impaired-alcohol. Donna Furr Overcash, 40, was arrested Aug. 18 and charged with simple assault. Wendy Lee Newell, 32, was arrested Aug.

Chorale to hold registration The County Chorale will hold registration for singers age from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 26, in the third floor choir room of First Presbyterian Church in downtown Albemarle. There are openings for singers in all voice parts. Refreshments will be served.

No audition is required. The Chorale rehearses each Monday evening at 7 until the DEATHS I Nancy McRae Nancy Carolyn Furr McRae, 65, of 138 Maple Badin, died at 12:25 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, in NorthEast Medical Center. Her funeral will be at graveside at 11 a.m.

Wednesday in. Fairview Memorial Park with The Rev. Steve Tucker officiating. Born July 16, 1937, in Stanly County, she was a daughter of Myrtle Pauline Treece of Albemarle and the late Horace: Jasper Furr and was a stripe setter for E.J. Snyder and Company.

She enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren, and helping others. She liked to grow flowers and also enjoyed the ocean and boating at Lake Tillery. She was preceded in death by a brother, James Darrell "Sonny" Furr. She is survived by two daughters, Tina McRae De Vore of Albemarle and Lori Lowder of Mt. Gilead; her mother; a brother, Donnie Ray Furr of Greensboro; five grandchildren; and a greatgrandchild.

Hartsell. Funeral Home of Albemarle is in charge. Sophie Burroughs Sophie Chappell Burroughs, 64, of Mt. Gilead, died at 8:21 a.m. Monday, Aug.

19, 2002, in Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at graveside in Sharon Cemetery in Mt. Gilead. The Rev.

David Peitz will officiate. Born July 18, 1938, in Richmond County, she was a daughter of Gertie Harris Chappell of Mt. Gilead, who survives, and the late Jesse Chappell and was a homemaker. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. In addition to her mother, she 1.1: survived by Her husband, Howard Nicholson' Burroughs of the home: two brothers.

Clyde Chappell and Jesse Lee Chappell, both of Mt. Gilead; and two sisters, Dorothy Lamonds of Biscoe and Lola Sneed of Mt. Gilead. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening at Edwards Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead.

Timmy Drye Timmy Ray Drye, 42, of Wiscassett Street, Albemarle, who was injured in an automobile accident Friday morning on U.S. 52 in 'New London, died Monday night in Carolinas Medical Center. Paid obituary Gulledge, Jr. Sidney Loy Gulledge, 81, of Raleigh died peacefully. on Saturday, August 17, 2002, at Mayview Convalescent Center. Members of his family were at his bedside. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, August 21, at Edenton Street United Methodist Church.

Following the service, the family will receive friends at the church. A private family burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Mr. Gulledge was born in Albemarle. N.C.on May 23, 1921, to Sidney Loy and Estle Bailey Gulledge.

He was an Eagle Scout and a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Duke University in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy 1943-46. earning the rank of Lieutenant Commander; graduated from Harvard Graduate School of Business in 1948. He joined Wachovia Bank and Trust Company in Winston Salem in 1948; transferred to Raleigh in 1960 and took early retirement froth the bank in 1975 as vice president for commercial lending.

Following -his banking career, he joined North Hills Realty Company as manager of the commercial division. His latest business association was owner of RDU Properties. He is survived by his wife, Betty Goslen Gulledge. They married on May 21, 1949. Mr.

Gulledge is also survived by, his sister, Jane Gulledge Winecoff of Charlotte. He is survived by his three children: Sidney Loy Gulledge, Ill, M.D. and wife, Suzanne, of Raleigh, William Bailey Gulledge and wife, Donna, of Brookfield, Connecticut, and Susan Gulledge Stimmel and husband, Brad, of Raleigh. He described as his "eight perfect William Brent Stimmel. Lee Austin Stimmel, Elizabeth Bradley Stimmel, Anne Elizabeth Gulledge, Mary Kate Gulledge, Elizabeth Anne Gulledge, Katherine Allen Gulledge and Sidney Loy Gulledge, IV.

A Mr. Gulledge's many community activities included last performance which is scheduled on Dec. 15. The fee is $20 for the season. Singers desiring to join who are unable to be present at registration may still do so through Sept.
