A Look Inside: Norwegian Getaway Balcony Cabin Review (2024)

There are many factors to consider when choosing the perfect cruise ship cabin. Not only do you have to decide on the deck number and whether you want to be located forward, aft, or midship, but there are also a wide selection of differentroom categories. Our balcony cabin was room number 11714 (Category BC: Forward). Found on the Starboard side of the ship, our room was located almost all the way forward. Although a trek from the elevator, the location did not affect us during our stay. Though a bit more rockythan a mid-ship cabin, neither one of us are affected by the movements of the ship.

Upon entering the room, we found the setup to be pretty typical of balcony rooms. Somewhat long and narrow, the room amenities included a king-sized bed, a small love seat, a desk with some storage, and our balcony. It is a layout that we have become accustomed to on mega-ships. According to the deck plans on NCL’s website, this balcony category includes 207 square feet of interior space and 32 square feet of balcony space. The size is on par with other balcony staterooms in which we have stayed inthe NCL fleet, as well as on Celebrity Cruises and MSC Cruises.

During the cruise, there was enough space for us to maneuver throughout the room with ease. Sadly though, the balcony rooms on NCL ship’s do suffer from a lack of storage for us over-packers. A prototypical closet is included, but unlike similar staterooms on other ships, storage at the desk area is a bit lacking. There is also no additional storage provided over the bed like some other ships. I guess we are spoiled now; nothing will ever compare to the walk-in closet and storage space found injunior suites, but you do have to pay a hefty price tag for the extra space.

We don’t spend much time watching movies or television, but there is a television located just off to the side of the bed. This is nice to review the day’s events and book restaurant and/or entertainment reservations right from the comfort of your cabin.

Our bathroom was located off to the left hand side when entering the room. All of the furnishings were modern and on par with a mainstream cruise line bathroom. Let’s just say that no one cruises for the stateroom bathrooms!

While having a balcony was nice for the views and fresh air, it was a tight squeeze for the two of us to sit, with our chairs and table, on the balcony. There was certainly not enough room for a lounger! While the setup was essentially the same, the balcony on Norwegian Escape definitely felt roomier with more seating space.

The balcony cabins on Norwegian Getaway certainly offer more space than an inside cabin. For those who have sailed on similar sized ships, you will be familiar with the standard amenities and layout. For those new to cruising, Norwegian Getaway balcony rooms offer a nice entry level stateroom category. You will have more space inside, and you will have some exposure to the outside world.The rooms also feature an energy saving design requiring a room key to be inserted before you can manage the lights and/or air conditioning.

Another great benefit of getting a balcony with Norwegian Cruise Line is the free perks you receive. Depending on when you book, selecting a balcony cabin could come with some additional add-ons as part of the “Free at Sea” promotion. These items which can include a free Ultimate Beverage Package, Specialty Dining Package, and more make this cabin category an even better value. Plus, don’t forget to ask your travel agent what additional offers they might have for your booking. When you price out the added benefits, it makes spending a few more bucks per day for the balcony cabin a very wise investment.
